Animes by the same creator, proper use of 'other' relation?

Post by azntimm »

I know that the request to allow people to check out other animes by the same producer has been shot down before, but this is slightly different. Just as there's a genre for Ghibli, I'd like people who have enjoyed one OVA/Movie by Shinkai Makoto to be able to find other works by him.

Since he's not prolific enough to deserve his own genre, but has certainly put out his share, would it be considered appropriate to link the four or five animes he's done using the 'other' relation? Currently it's not possible for someone to find 'Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko' through AniDB if they really liked 'Hoshi no Koe'.

This is also a somewhat selfish request :D since after discovering a short movie by him based on one of my favorite books, I'd like more people to see that anime entry so someone (other Shinkai fans) will see that no one's released a file for it and maybe find it somewhere and list it. Other than through a link from a more popular Shinkai anime, I can't really see too many people stumbling across it.

*shoots*

:)

I guess AniDB is simply not there for something like this. To find out more about Animes in general, ANN is the place to go. Simply help adding the links to ANN to your favourite Anime entries in AniDB and you are all set.

There is no reason for us to repeat the work of other websites who took a great deal of effort creating the contenct they offer (like ANN).

In the end, we would simply be copying or repeating things that are already available elsewhere.

The Ghibli category is simply there because the artwork and chara design as well as the general type of story told by Miyazaki are so similar and impressing that they deserve their own genre (or "his" genre).

well,

the relations are definetly NOT ment to be used that way.
however, the handling of producers & co in anidb will change some day (i.e. allowing multiple producers, urls per producer, ...) which will then also allow you to browse animes by producer.
so in a sense this is on todo, not directly, but it will result out of the new producer handling.

BYe!
