hmmm, i was wondering what are the 3 blank files on eps 9,10 and 11 of Fafner (aid=1806), they don't have a fid, they don't have users, they don't have squat, yet they are there, doing what, i ask.

I guess it was about time to move Generic (0-byte) files and their use from the draft-section to a public forum ^^

Okay, if i read right the document, that poses a question:
If they are automaticly introduced when a new episode is added, and they are introduced as a 0 byte file just to fill the space of a file, why aren't they removed when an actual file is introduced for that episode in the database?
(considering off course that no changes were made to the generic file since it was introduced)
I supose that we would remove that generic file after it's purpose was done, cause by being a blank file is a bit pointless when you allready have an actual file, no?
enlighten me on the subject please
PS: and yes, it's time to move that thread to a public forum.

Have a look at "What can they be used for? " again - if you watched it on TV or have it on DVD, you can add the generic file. They're not just there to "fill the space" ^^fahrenheit wrote:If they are automaticly introduced when a new episode is added, and they are introduced as a 0 byte file just to fill the space of a file, why aren't they removed when an actual file is introduced for that episode in the database?
Since they provide a constant use, the generic files won't be removed (maybe except some cases where they'd be useless anyway).
Currently, to test them, they're only added to new episodes. The remaining 20000 episodes will eventually get their own generic files aswell.
A generic file always stays the same - only in each person's mylist it can have different properties.fahrenheit wrote:(considering off course that no changes were made to the generic file since it was introduced)
You can hide generic files with a profile-option. I'll add that to the post.fahrenheit wrote:I supose that we would remove that generic file after it's purpose was done, cause by being a blank file is a bit pointless when you allready have an actual file, no?
"Hide generic files only for eps I already have a file of" might be a useful feature, though.
Hiding with this option makes strange results, like this:wahaha wrote:You can hide generic files with a profile-option. I'll add that to the post.

(see with Hiding switched on - not very interesting)
If think, better way would be to handle generic files in same way as depreceated files, hide them by default, but with option to show.
I would agree but once you know what they are they frankly are not that irritating anymore.
I think they should be hidden like deprecated files as soon as a "real" file is added to an episode. A generic file should be visible if there is no other file in the Episode entry.
Additionally there should be a button on every Anime page once every episode has a generic file which adds all generic files for a whole anime so that you can mark the whole series watched (on TV/DVD/in cinema)
