Login invalid???

Post by Phoenixcat »

I got a temp password in the first email sent to me after signing up. i then used that password to login into the site, it worked fine. In the email that i recieved it said i should change my password immediately, so i did, then when i went to log in with the new password it came up with Login Invalid. I tried clicking on the password reminder link but everytime i clicked on it, it just came up with login invalid, and every other link i clicked on had the same problem. What is going on? help would great!!!

Well I'm not sure what the problem is, but I can help you out. I can give you a temp password and you can try re-loginning in. It would be best to join #anidb@chatsociety.net so communication would be easier. If you can't do that, I guess I can help you through messaging through the forum. I take it that phoenixcat is your account right?

It looks like you enabled "auto-login" during the first login with the temp-password. Due to a bug on AniDB, the auto-login-cookie is not deleted, and your browser now always tries to relogin with the wrong (old) password.

If you don't know how/where to delete that cookie, please tell us which browser you use. There are short guides for IE and Firefox already:
  • Firefox
Go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Cookies and click on "Stored Cookies". There you can delete the two cookies "adbautouser" and "adbautopass" from anidb.ath.cx.
Then, you should be able to properly login again.
  • Internet Explorer
    1) (In IE,) go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Settings (next to "Remove files...") -> Show files
    2) (I'd suggest to sort the files by their type, then) locate the file "Cookie:(your windows-username)@anidb.ath.cx" and delete it
A different quick try (which I didn't test yet) is to manipulate the following link:
http://anidb.ath.cx/perl-bin/animedb.pl?xuser=YOUR_USERNAME&xpass=YOUR_PASSWORD&xdoautologin=1
Of course, you have to enter the correct values for YOUR_USERNAME and YOUR_PASSWORD.
