Since the vast majority of imported anime isn't rated, there's really no filtering criteria. The only stuff that has "age restriction 18+" IS hentai. And in Japan, the kids tend to be a bit more capable and mature (culture differences), so even "kids" anime tend to have more adul...

Berserk, Black Lagoon, Sazan Eyes, Ao no 6-gou, Boogiepop Phantom come to mind. All stuff that's really not for kids (Ao no 6-gou is probably the tamest in that list). Plenty of others, but that's a problem in itself. A LOT of anime isn't really for kids (or at least not kids in the Western world). ...
