Appleseed Movie 2004 in not a sequel to OVA.
It's prequel or parent story. I bet parent story.

In movie Deunan just come to Olimpus and in OVA she is living in.
But in OVA relations between Deunan and Athena act like they don't know each other (in movie appears that Athena know Deunan as child).

It's a sequel in the old-style sense. But certainly not a sequel, prequel or parent story in a plot-line sense, alternative version maybe. Go read the manga and come back and try again, if ya like.
