I like Mai Hime, however I didn't love it, but I do feel that after seeing a part of the first eps. of Mai Otome[my download didn't finish, Azureus started being mean after 96% of the download itself was completed T_T evil..], I got confused.
1. When, how, and why was Mikoto a CAT? a cute, yet fat cat.
2. why was the princess from Mai Hime somehow reincarnated or whatever?
3. Who's Nina? She looks like Mikoto only scarier
Another complaint,
I did NOT like how they drew Arika. Her eyes are too wide apart for my taste and I didn't like the voice either. Oh well.
But I did like how a couple of the original characters were put in... but still, I'm confused.
Mai Otome vs. Mai Hime...sorta

you should watch mai otome (I mean the whole series) because it's really a
great anime, but then again I had already liked mai hime. Mai Otome is not a
sequel however you can relate this "new world" to the one of my hime
through some of the caracters like Mikoto (not the cat, the real one who
appears somewhere in the middle of the series) and Miyu. It's really a great
show better than Mai Hime, just watch it from the beggining to the end,

Otome is an alternative universe/time setting. There are some clues near the end of the series about the relationship between Hime and Otome.
IMNSHO, Hime was a wonderful series that could have been a mindfuck on the level of EOE if the designers hadn't pussied out at the end. Otome took out most of the points that made Hime excellent (real romance, mindfuckery, characters dying, emotion) and was much more bland as a result. Wasn't BAD, just not as good.

yeh you're kind of right but even so I'd put them on two totally different
categories because even though there are a lot of similarities they're so very
different. I guess I feel tempted to compare them but I don't think any result
of that comparison can lessen the quality of any of the "Mai series" cause on
purpose or not the anime style differs so much.
In the end, and talking just about personal preferences, if you ask me I also
prefer the "EOE style".
